Every Year 11 student at John Smeaton Academy will have at least one careers meeting with a specialist careers advisor.  During this time the student is able to discuss their wishes for the future and their skills profile.  The careers advisor will provide impartial professional advice  which generates a bespoke and personalised action plan to help them progress to their destination of choice.

At our results day in August, we invited in leading colleges within the Leeds city region to join us, with both Elliott Hudson College Boston Spa and Leeds City College attending. This provided further support to our students and help in transitioning to a post-16 provision.

There is a thorough career programme for younger students including career fairs, targeted career interviews and dedicated time set aside for planning for the post-16 application process.

The academy has also invested in an online career and destination planning platform called ‘Start’. This platform will allow students and parents/carers to explore potential college, university and career options. One of the exciting features of Start is an ability for students to build their own online portfolio of skills, interests and achievements. Through this facility each young person will develop a portfolio of evidence which will support future college/university or apprenticeship applications.
