Message from our Principal
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to John Smeaton Academy’s website. Together with governors, staff, parents/carers and the local community, we aim to create an outstanding school for your children – providing an excellent academic and enriched curriculum, a commitment to exemplary student behaviour, and an environment where every student is valued and treated as an individual. We nurture students’ talents and abilities, instil them with a sense of ambition, and ensure they feel safe and happy at school.
We are unashamedly traditional in the values we hold most dear: a strong work ethic; kindness; decency. Central to our culture and ethos, professionals work hard to instil these simple values into our young people in order to prepare them for adulthood and the world of work. Our aim is to create confident individuals, life-long learners and responsible citizens who move to the next stage in their life having:
- Fulfilled their academic potential
- Developed essential personal skills and attributes
- Grown resilience to face down challenges and setbacks
Of course, great schools do not happen by chance! They come about and thrive when professionals and families work in close partnership to support and encourage young people. At John Smeaton Academy, we value this partnership and work hard to ensure that parents/carers are well informed about their child’s academic progress. Professionals work extremely hard to plan and deliver lessons which stretch and challenge all students, no matter what their starting points. At the same time, we want them to experience fun and laughter by taking advantage of the extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities we offer.
Through our vision of nurturing today’s young people and inspiring tomorrow’s leaders, we seek to develop inquisitive, confident, dynamic and successful young people ready for their future lives as global citizens. We are fully committed to ensuring all students are able to achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally so they can lead productive and happy lives.
Thank you for visiting our website and I trust you have found the information useful. You are most welcome to visit our school on any of our Open Days or we can arrange a private tour when school is in session if you prefer. I do hope our website gives you a taste of what we are about as a school.
I look forward to meeting you.
