GCSE Drama
Students who opt to study GCSE Drama will follow the Eduqas specification and have three lessons a week. The lessons will build on various performance and analytical skills. They will learn how to perform, analyse, reflect and evaluate live theatre from a variety of genres. During practical lessons they will improve their performance techniques and will be required to perform two group pieces. They will also study various theatre practitioners and use what they have learnt in their own pieces.
The course will be assessed across 3 different components throughout Year 10 and Year 11:
Component 1: Devising Theatre (40%)
Students will perform in a group piece. They will participate in the creation, development and performance of these pieces using the techniques of a theatre practitioner in response to a stimulus. These performances will take place in year 11, and research and rehearsal will take place throughout year 10 in preparation for this.
Component 2: Performing from a Text (20%)
Students will study two extracts from one play and will perform these to a visiting examiner. The students will rehearse these and develop their performance skills in preparation for the visit in year 11.
Component 3: Interpreting Theatre (40%)
Students will sit a 1 hour 30 minute written examination at the end of year 11. This examination will be split into two parts. Section A is a series of questions on the set text, DNA by Dennis Kelly. Section B will give them a choice of two questions requiring analysis and evaluation of a given aspect of a live theatre production seen during the course.
