John Smeaton Academy is proud of our community and we are
happy to take new students using agreed admissions criteria.
John Smeaton Academy is free to attend, with places open to students of all abilities. We consider all student applications on an individual basis and always try to offer a place at the Academy if we possibly can.
John Smeaton Academy works in partnership with the Local Authority and uses the Common Admissions Arrangements in place for Admissions into Year 7. Parents of Year 6 students must apply for John Smeaton Academy by using the Common Application Forms from the Local Authority.

Deadline for applications is 31st October 2020.

Parents of students who wish to make a late application for Year 7 at John Smeaton Academy (after the Local Authority offer date) should contact the Academy directly for an application pack.
Parents of students wishing to transfer to John Smeaton Academy in Year 8 – 11 should contact either the Local Authority or the Academy directly for an application pack.
In Year Admissions
If your child would like a place at The John Smeaton Academy because you have moved to within the catchment area or your child is at a local high school and you wish to change schools, you will need to make your application via the Leeds Local Authority Admissions website which can be found here https://www.leeds.gov.uk/schools-and-education/school-admissions/moving-schools.
If places are available we will offer you a guided tour of the academy and discuss in detail the admission of your child.
However, if the year group has no vacancies your application may go to appeal in accordance with the Governance Services Section of Leeds City Council who administers the appeals on behalf of the academy.
Appeals against a decision will be heard within 30 days of the appeal being received by the clerk.

Following the hearing, decision letters will be sent within 5 school days of the hearing.
